Filling Station Network - Farm Shops, Community Shops, private petrol stations - We need your help!

We are currently setting up the country's first vegetable oil filling station for the Headcorn Sustainability Group in Kent, supplying locally grown and pressed rapeseed oil in the heart of the community. The filling station will be based at the community-shop, which sells local produce, and gives advice on low impact living.

We will be combining this with a community-car-pool of upgraded vehicles, so that we can help people do without owning a car completely. This will also help put driving on rapeseed oil firmly on the map, by giving people the chance to see how easy, clean and safe the Elsbett single-tank conversion technology is.

Trading-Standards impose very strict controls on the metering of fuel dispensed to the public, which makes plated dispensing equipment very expensive, so to start off with, fuel will only be distributed to members of the group.

We think this is a model that can easily be rolled out across the country. Why not set up a fuel-club in your community, and perhaps encourage a farm-shop or community-shop to host a filling station? If combining filling-stations with supermarkets works for Sainsburys and Morissons, then it can work for your farm-shop too. You can install a basic unit for under a thousand pounds, and really show others in your community that it is easy going green!
